Apr 6, 2009 6:31 AM (in response to Laszlo G) error downloading catalog.z, too We experience the same problem here since a scheduled rollout of ePO Agent 4.0.0. 1435 (Patch 1) via Wake-On-Lan.
A large number of clients fail to download the catalog.z file from some of the repositories whereas others can download the file and are updating normally as expected.
Versions in use:
McAfee Agent 4.0.0 1345, Virusscan 8.5i Patch 6 and 7, ePO Server 3.6.1.255 .
Tried SuperDAT as well as re-installing Virusscan. What seems to help is granting the local user local administrator rights (?!?) - what is not an option for the production environment, of course.
Any known issue with the new script engine, ipcchannel implementation or user rights ?

we were able to test the Patch 2 version of the McAfee Agent (1421).
It seems from our first tests, that the problem is fixed with it.
Unfortunately it is still in it's field test phase.
If you don't participate in that test, you may contact McAfee to supply the new agent version to you.

Apr 15, 2009 10:33 AM (in response to VirHunt) Same issue We were having this issue, and have download patch 2. It seemed to cure the issues with Vista machines, but now all of our other clients (XP and 2003 servers) are receiving this now.
If we point the clients to the master epo repo, then it works correctly. We have tried to delete the contents of one of our repos, and did a full replication, but the issue remains.
Looks like it resolved one issue, but is causing another.
I have a case open with Tech Support, and hopefully they can point us in the right directions. Report Abuse Like (0) VirHunt 7 posts since Apr 6, 2009 Currently Being Moderated 6. Apr 16, 2009 2:28 AM (in response to klemenm) Patch 2 resolved the issue here for Windows XP Hi,
we are using Windows XP clients here (> 10.000, still on SP2 though).
On these clients the Patch resolved the issue.
If McAfee Support finds the reason for your XP clients not updating, please post it here.
Thanks!

We too have the EXACT sae issue. XP and 2003 stopped working, redoing a full replication does not resolve it. Report Abuse Like (0) eobiont 62 posts since Jan 3, 2008 Currently Being Moderated 8. Apr 22, 2009 12:22 PM (in response to caldigital) RE: Same issue Same problem here.
Clients are XP SP3, Agent is 4.0 (1421/patch2)
We have had this problem for more than 1 month. Support said it is fixed in Patch 2 but it is not. I have also rebuilt the distributed repository and continue to have the problem
Is evryone with the problem sharing the repository via UNC? We are. I am thinking of switching to FTP or HTTP and see if it works any better.
If the above mentioned steps don't work like in my case I will explain how I fixed this issue. The steps explaining to change the following 3 Registry keys in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ didn't help since one of the keys in the registry was missing and you need to change all 3 in order to work. Also you might encouter that not all 3 files are located in the C:\Windows\System32\Drivers directory.
system32\drivers\mfeapfk.sys (Was in Registry)system32\drivers\mfeavfk.sys (Was in Registry)system32\drivers\mfebopk.sys (Was NOT in Registry)
Files that need to be in: C:\Windows\System32\Drivers
mfeapfk.sys (Was in DIR)mfeavfk.sys (Was in DIR)mfebopk.sys (Was NOT in DIR)
We are running alot of Servers with McAfee VSE 8.7i on ePO so I went to a Server which was working fine and Exported the 3 registry keys and copied the 3 files from the C:\Windows\System32\Drivers directory. I then Copied these 6 files to the new Server I wanted to install McAfee VSE 8.7i on and PASTED them on the Desktop. I then Copied and Replaced the mfeapfk.sys, mfeavfk.sys , mfebopk.sys in the C:\Windows\System32\Drivers directory. Then I double clicked on the following 3 keys to write them to the registry:mfeapfk.reg, mfeavfk.reg , mfebopk.reg.
I then started the installation again and like magic it went throught without any Problems. If this website allows it, I will add the 3 registry keys and the 3 system files in this post! Hope this post help a lot of poeple who were struggeling like me
Not sure if this will help but I went looking in the KnowledgeBase and all I was able to find was a description. I am not a product specialist but I hope this assists in getting started looking in the right direction.

To locate the list of error codes in the KnowledgeBase I had to remove the 0x from the string.

On two XP SP3 systems running VSE 8.7i Patch 5 with manditory hotfix HF777352 installed and system rebooted, I'm able to reproduce the error 'File V2engdet.mcs is corrupt' every time the Autoupdate process is run, using the public McAfee update servers. Both systems successfully updated from the 5400 to 5600 engine and from DAT 7145 to 7146 earlier today, and both systems have been rebooted after today's new engine and DAT were installed. Both systems were rebooted earlier today running the 5400 and DAT 7145, and neither system are low on disk space.
Since all of my stand alone systems run Autoupdate every 2 hours, how much bandwitdth is the V2engdet.mcs re-downloading going to take, and will this error be resolved with Thu DAT 7147? Is this a soft error or more critical error that may affect VSE performace?
Other XP SP3 systems already running engine 5600 on VSE 8.8 Patch 2 are not encountering the 'File V2engdet.mcs is corrupt' with today's 7146 DAT.
Also XP SP3 systems with Engine 5400 and Autoupdate configured to NOT update the engine succesfully updated today to DAT 7146 without the error message posted above.

Try downloading the latest XDat file and running it with the /f parameter. Reboot. Then try the update manually.
Hopefully this rewrites a new V2engdet.msc file and corrects the error message.
Go to ePO, click Menu, Data Protection, Ecryption Users. Select the machine in question. Click Action, Endpoint Encryption and View Users. Is the account still assigned to the machine?

Change the permissions on Root back to non fullcontrol
Repeat this process for ControlSet002, 003,CurrentControlSet
